Apathy – A Short Film
This short film was our first exploration of the foley technique, where sound design becomes as vital to storytelling as the visuals themselves. Created as part of a collaborative project, my teammate Daniela Graterol Puente and I handled the filming, direction, and editing, while Daniela also took on the lead role. After production, we recorded and layered foley effects to bring new life, texture, and atmosphere to key scenes.
The story of Apathy follows a breathless young adult caught in a relentless cycle of relapse, trapped within the limbo of her own psyche. Her mind, poisoned with indifference, drifts further into darkness with every flick of a lighter. As the youth in her eyes fades, she sinks deeper into the abyss—yet a question remains: could she still awaken to a new day and find a fresh breath of life?
Both visually and sonically, Apathy reflects on themes of isolation, inner struggle, and the quiet but destructive power of apathy.

James Lazaro Interview
For our second-semester midterm project, my collaborator Daniela Graterol Puente and I produced a compelling interview with our friend James Lazaro, exploring the everyday challenges faced by college students. In a candid conversation, James opens up about the relentless struggle of balancing academic demands with basic self-care—particularly the steep cost of sleep.
Navigating the familiar terrain of student burnout and sleep deprivation, the film invites viewers from Algonquin and beyond to pause and reflect. Despite being a ubiquitous part of student life, James’s story shines a light on a deeper, often overlooked need for introspection and well-being amidst our routines.
Directed and edited by Daniela Graterol Puente and Uluhan M. Orhan.

Adaptation of Alice Guy’s At the Club (1899)
For this project, I recreated Alice Guy’s pioneering short film At the Club, originally filmed in 1899. I selected this piece as it offered a strong foundation for adaptation, allowing me to explore both the historical roots of cinema and the creative possibilities of modern reinterpretation.
The adaptation mirrors the original staging and composition, with the same number of characters and similar traffic of movement, but introduces several contemporary adjustments. Filmed in 16:9 aspect ratio rather than the original 4:3, the scene was shot in color but treated with a vintage old film effect to capture the aesthetic of early cinema. Without access to a tripod at the time, I improvised by stabilizing the camera on another object to maintain a fixed frame.
Featuring myself and friends as actors, the film preserves the lively energy of the original while presenting the thematic idea that “every action has a reaction.” The adaptation not only respects Alice Guy’s groundbreaking work but also reimagines it through a modern technical lens, offering sharper visuals while retaining the spirit of early film experimentation.
Adapted, directed, and edited by Uluhan M. Orhan.
